French Cast Iron Rococo Pompador Fireplace
£1,200.00Price
A beautiful French cast iron Rococo Pompador fireplace, made by the Pechenard foundry in the Louis XV style. Elegantly made with Cherubs encapsulating a Salamander, which is a symbol for the French King. The Salamander is thought to have mystical powers and could not be consumed by fire, here it was meant to symbolise the strength and invulnerability of royalty. The artist’s signature is present at the bottom of the right hand jamb.
A stunning piece and incredibly interesting.
